London Roseberys Fine Art Auctioneers and specialists in Asian Arts are delighted to present a number of rare and exquisite pieces in their forthcoming fine art sale held over 1 and 2 December at their Lambeth showroom.

In addition to fine European ceramics, jewellery & silver, antique picture frames, paintings and furniture, Roseberys will be offering over 300 lots of exceptional Chinese works of art and ceramics dating from the 12th to 20th Century.
Asian Arts Specialist, Bill Forrest gives an overview of the auction.
“Chinese ceramics from the 12th-20th century populate much of this December’s Asian art sale with particular highlights being a rare porcelain monochrome lime green bowl with Emperor Guangxu’s reign mark to the base [Lot  1321], and a superb Yuan Dynasty Junyao ware purple splash censer from the Jun kilns [Lot 1480].  The demand for Chinese scholar’s objects is ever increasing and on offer in this sale are a great variety of brush pots in ivory, porcelain, bronze and bamboo, jade brushwashers and brush rests, and a number of finely executed Chinese scroll paintings.  From Japan; a massive ivory takarabune [Lot 1543], an equally large and impressive cloisonné on silver vase [Lot 1562] and a fascinating private collection of Japanese sword mounts”.  Bill Forrest

Further Asian highlights from the sale include:

  • Lot 1499 – A Chinese bamboo ‘three scholars’ brush pot, bitong, 17th/18th century, finely carved with three scholars in conversation on a mountain path beneath a pine tree and cloud wisps, 11.5cm. [Lot 1499]

  • Lot 1417 – A rare pair of Tibetan copper-gilt repousse Buddhist lion temple gate mounts, 17th century, 17cm long. [Lot 1417]

Estimate £4,000 – £6,000

  • Lot 1547 – A Chinese gilt metal and cloisonne stem cup and cover, 17th century, decorated with flowering entwined stems on a blue ground with ruyi border beneath rim and vertical stiff leaves to stem, 12cm high. [Lot 1547]

Estimate £3,000 – £5,000
